| CO2 OFFSETTING
|
|
 Orion Shipping and our parent company Kerry Logistics are the first UK logistics companies to offer carbon offsetting on sea voyages. We are pleased to announce a voluntary scheme to offset the CO2 emitted by the sea freight journey we arrange for you, in the same way some airlines now offer an offset option to passengers. We caclulate either per journey of by predicated annual shipment totals, your Company's Maritime emissions in terms of CO2 emitted in the transport of your imported or exported goods and then buy enough units from accredited schemes to offset that amount of CO2. A typical cost of these offsets would be £5 for a 20ft containers to of from New York or £20 for a 40ft container from Shanghai.

| BULK SHIPMENTS
|
|
We have recently seen a significant increased level of interest in Flexitanks (also known as flexibags and bladders) as a cheaper alternative to ISOTanks for the shipment of non hazardous bulk liquids. We can supply, fit and ship flexitanks. We can also assist with the supply of flowmeters and general advice on switching to the right type of flexitank for your product and loading facilities. If you already ship your product in tank containers out of the UK why not investigate the suitability of flexitanks which can offer significant savings especially on deep sea shipments to for example the USA, China and India.

| ISPM15 WOOD PACKAGING REGS
|
|
ISPM 15 rules.
Japan is the latest country to enfornce the UN's International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures from 1st April 2007 from which data all wood and wood packaging imported into Japan must be either fumigated or heat treated and marked with the interntaionally approved logo to confirm it has been appropriately treated by a recognised authority.
The EU already requires all wood packaging material imported into the EU from non-EU countries (except Switzerland) to comply with the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures, Publication No. 15 (ISPM 15). ISPM 15 was produced by the Secretariat of the International Plant Protection Convention, part of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
This means that consignments containing wood packaging material (including dunnage) must be treated appropriately to remove any pest present and clearly marked according to the guidelines in ISPM 15 once this treatment has been carried out.

| Waste Shipments to non OECD countries
|
|
The regulations involved with the management of the international shipment of waste depend on the following variables:
· whether the waste is being sent for recovery or for disposal (most shipments for disposal are prohibited).
· if being moved for recovery, the type of waste involved (European legislation contains specifies different types of hazardous and non-hazardous waste).
· the status of the countries of dispatch and destination.
Most types of waste material shipped to the Far East from the EU are subject to so-called “Green List Controls”, which are the lowest level of controlled export for waste products. On the import side, various non – OECD countries impose different levels of controls on the various waste types. The European Commission has recently published a regulation specifying the controls that will apply to different types of green list waste destined to different countries. To assist business the UK’s Environment Agency has produced a summary table – available at:
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/commondata/acrobat/greenlist_v31_1818399.pdf
This document sets out the current correct position for key waste streams and key potential export destinations. The Environment Agency will enforce the controls as set out in this table. Under the new green list procedures a Green List Form (the "Annex VII form") must be completed to travel with each consignment of green list recyclable waste for recovery.
The following summarises the position as presently understood:
· Controls applicable at the proposed destination must be adhered to;
· Provided the waste falls within "green listed waste" controls, it can be moved legally without making contact with or obtaining permission from the Environment Agency;
· The "person who arranges shipment" of the waste must complete and certify by signing an Annex VII form that the i

| JNPT BOLT SEAL RULE
|
|
| we have been reminded by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to remind all shippers that bolt seals must be affixed to all containers destined to India. If a bolt seal is not used then shipper / consignee face a fine, penalty and possible further consequences from Indian customs - please note these charges are your responsibility and will not / cannot be subsided by the carrier. The full charge whatever it may be pay is payable by shipper / consignee.
JNPT have introduced such strict measures to increase port security and minimise pilferage of containerised cargo - a strip seal is no longer adequate and will not be handled by the port. This ruling applies to both import & export shipments.
UPDATE Karchi now too is instisting on bolt seals. If any Orion shippers require bolt seals we hold a small stick here and would be happy to send some to you along with supplier details.
